Mendel and the Gene Idea
Mendel's Experimental, Quantitative Approach
-
Character: A heritable feature that varies among individuals, such as flower color.
Trait: Each variant for a character, such as purple or white color for flowers.
-
Mendel's Model
-
-
Alleles:One of a number of alternative forms of the same gene or same genetic locus (generally a group of genes).
Degrees of Dominance
-
-
-
Incomplete dominance:nspecifically a type of intermediate inheritance where one allele for a specific trait isn’t entirely expressed (entirely dominant) over its paired allele.
When a trait has incomplete dominance, there is no dominant or recessive gene.
so if a red flower and a yellow flower cross pollinated and the resulting genotype was RY, then the result would be an orange flower.
