Elements, Compounds & Mixtures
Element - a substance that contains only 1 type of atom. E.g. Copper, aluminium, iron, oxygen, nitrogen.
Compound - 2 or more types of atom chemically joined together. E.g. Water, carbon dioxide, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide
Mixture - contains two or more different substances that are not chemically joined together. E.g. Carbon + oxygen, air, seawater.

Uses of oxygen
Breathing - The oxygen goes into your lungs. The alvioli changes the oxygen into energy to be used in the circulatory system. It is also used yo break down food for energy.
Welding - The oxygen is used to increase the temperature of the flame in welding. It is also used to control what you can do with the welding gear.

Test for oxygen - Take a glowing splint and place it in a sample of gas, if it re-ignites the gas is oxygen.
Test for hydrogen - take a lit splint and place it in the gas if there is a squeaky pop then that means the gas is hydrogen.
