What does it take for someone to be able to see things that other people could/would not?
Owen: They have to be open-minded
Alvin: Need to be honest about what you know
Gabriel: They have to accept the facts.
Kim: They have to accept both sides.
Emily: They have to accept both positive and negative.
Zachary: You need to be able to be aware that sometimes you're wrong, and sometimes you're wrong.
Jazelle: You have to be understanding. You can't be naive.
Haylie: Accept that it can end up positive or negative.
Isaiah: Do you see things better when you are unbaised?
Christian: Yes, because you can see things better when you are unbiased, because you can see both sides.
Anahi: Sometimes tragedy can cause someone to see things differently.
Are there any tragedies in the book so far that have caused some characters to see things differently?
Anahi: Paul saw other people's true colors after the death of Mike Costello.
Zachary: With Paul, losing his eyesight has allowed for him to see the value of having good eyesight, which allows him to see things that others do not.
Faith: Tragedy allows for someone to see another side to a story that night have been covered up before.
Emily: Would you be able to be unbiased if the person you are viewing is your friend?
Nicholas: yes, because accepting people for who they are is a part of life.
Grayce: Yes, because your friends are not perfect.
Isaiah: It takes guts to see people a certain way.
Zachary: Paul can see things differently, because he can see the value of certain things. He's visually impaired, so he knows the value of seeing things clearly, unlike Erik who takes things for granted.
Jazelle: How would you get people to see from your standpoint?
Taryn: People can see from your standpoint.
Tehani: In part 3, someone else dies, but because Paul's parents had been so biased toward Erik, they were completely shocked.
Owen: It took Paul's parents some time to see that LWD was not a good school to send their kid to because of the sinkhole.
Isaiah: Paul saw the potential for a storm and realized that practice needed to be cancelled for the safety of everyone's sake.
Tehani: Why do we choose to believe lies, even thought we know that they are lies?
Isaiah: We believe lies sometimes because we are biased.
Jehdaiah: We tend to be more biased toward people we know, because we want to believe that the people we are close to are not bad people.
Taryn: How do we "forget" to see behaviors that are bad in people we like?
Emily: Sometimes we make excuses for people we know.
Grayce: Sometimes we could call out our friend. It could go horribly, or it could go well.
Sometimes we ignore bad behavior because we have a fear or losing our friends.
Zachary: Sometimes we don't want to lose those people we truly care about. Sometimes we don'y confront them because they are popular, or we might have a crush on them.
Gabriel: Gems (Friends) Gold (Truth) Choose gold over gems. The truth is more trustworthy and reliable than people especially if people have the potential to stab you in the back.
Grayce: What if you could choose both the gold and gems? What if you could face the truth AND work it out with your friends?
Gabriel: How can you have both? It's hard to remain friends with someone after you had "ratted them out"?
Grayce: Tying it back to the main question, if your friend is a horrible person, a good friend would let someone know that the other person needs to change and not let them continue being a bad person.
Jazelle: The truth always has a way of coming out.
Isaiah: If you call out your friend who was wrong, and they are able to realize that they were wrong, then it would be easier to forgive them.
Emily: it's possible to have both because if they are a good person, then they can face the truth.
Edrick: Why do you think it's so hard to see the truth?
Haylie & Jazelle: people tend to want to just see positivity.
Anahi: Maybe we only want to see positive things, because that reflects on us. If we see the negative in life, we might also feel negative.
Cherise: sometimes people just like to focus on the positive.
