STEPS
- INGESTION: bring food to mouth
- SWALLOWING: send the food to the esophagus by a reflex
- DIGESTION (CHEMICAL): break down food by mechanical and chemical (enzymatic) digestion into substances that can be used by the body
- ABSORPTION / ASIMILATION: passage of nutrients from the small intestine to the blood capillaries
- EXCRETION: waste disposal
