Procedure
Participant met confederate in waiting room. Names drawn to determine learner and teacher. Confederate fixed to be learner.
Learner and teacher given sample shock of 45V. Learner strapped to chair with electrodes in another room.
Teacher instructed by experimenter (grey lab coat, stern manner) to test word pairs. When learner was incorrect shock was given.

At 300v, 5 participants defied orders.

To see whether people would obey an authority figure when told to administer electric shocks to harm another.
