HYPOGLACAEMIA
NURSING INTERVENTIONS

monitor symptoms at freqeunt intervals[conscious levels, sesures,airway adequecy and vital signs.

Obtain history regarding recent food intake or lack of food intake,exercise and medication once patient is awake.

administer glucagon subcutaneous or IMI or 10% dextrose bolus doses intraveneously as prescribed if the patient is unconscious,incoherent or unable to take carbohydrates orally.

pathophysiology

Fasting hypoglacaemia result from excessive insulin,decreased glucose production by the liver.

For examples, mental confusion, seizures and coma.

HEALTH EDUCATION
-
discourage patient from using high calories ,high-fat food to treat hypoglycaemia.
All patients should be informed about causesof hypoglycaemia,indicators diagnostic testing and therapy.
To emphasise the importance of exercise, regular,consistent and healthy eating.

family members should be involved during teaching sesion inorder to assist patient when become unconscious.

CAUSES OF HYPOGLYCAEMIA
abdominal surgery, drug addiction and alcoholism
Tumours of the pancreas ,liver diseases,pitiutary gland disorders and adrenal cortex.
Too litle food intake, skipping meal,excessive exerciise before meal.

CLINICAL MANIFESTATION
Mild hypoglycaemia: drop in blood glucose stimulates sympatetic nervous system leading to a surge adrenalin. symptoms are anxiety,irritabiliy , palpitation, diaphoresis, tremors, and hunger
Moderate hypoglycaemia: due to impaired central nervous system causing poor concentration,headache ,confusion, numbness of limbs, slured speech, double vision and drousness.
Severe hypoglacaemia: impaires the central nervous system,here patient need asistant
