Statical/Data Analysis
Central Tendacy
How to do it
step one add all the numbers together
step two divide the sum by the number of addins
Median
step one arrange the numbers in order from least to greatest.
Step two find the middle number
step three if there are two middle numbers find the mean of the two numbers
Mode
Step one arrange the numbers from least to greatest
Step two find the number that is used tha most.
Example
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 15, 20. 6 is the median for that one because it is in the middle. If there are two numbers for the median find that mean for the two numbers.
1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 8, 10, 7 6 is the mode because it shows up the most.
When do you use it
you use mean when the data has no extreme values
you use median if the data has extreme values. So when there are big gaps in the middle of the data
you use mode when the data has many repeated numbers.
M.A.D.
How to do it
Step one find the mean of the number
Step two take the mean of the numbers and subtract it by the numbers you found the mena with
Example
Line Plot
How to do it
First find all your data. Next take the number that are there and put it on a line bar. Then put x's on top of the number to show how many of that number is there.
Example
Box Plot
How to do it
first put the numbers from least to greatest. Then find the median of the numbers. After that find the Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, and IQR of all the numbers.
Range
How to do it
Step one arrange the numbers from least to greatest.
Step two find the lowest and highest number.
Step three find the difference between the two numbers.
IQR
Step one put the numbers in order from least to greatest.
Step two find the median
Step three find Q1 and Q3
Step four subtract Q1 and Q3.
Example
Histograms
How to do it.
Count the numbers you have in your data. Next put the number in order and make a graph with it. with the number on the bottom and the greatest and lowest amount of number on the side. So like you have 2 4 6 8 10 on the side an 64 66 68 70 72 74 on the bottom
Statistical Questions
Figure out which one to do the mean, median,or mode. you use the mean if the data has no extreme values. You use median if the data has extreme values and if there are big gaps in the middle of the data. You find the mode if the data has many repeated numbers.
Example
Mean
Example
6, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10, 14 The range would be 8 because 14- 6 equals 8.
