      - Tx with antibiotics + mastoidectomy
    - - destructive (to roof of middle ear) + expanding non-cancerous growth consisting of keratinising squamous epithelium

      - EBV + adenovirus
    - - e.g. bacterial cause = fusobacterium necrophorum
        
        complication = Lemiere's syndrome (thrombophlebitis if int jug vein - inflamm due to thrombosis)
    - - billat purulent exudate
      - can be caused by EBV
    - - group A/C/G
  - - - capsular Hib
      - corynebacterium diphtheriae
      - drooling, stridor, acutely unwell
    - - must rule out
      - pseudomembrane (inflamm exudate)

      - purulent tonsils
      - cervical lymphadenopathy
      - no cough
    - - 10 days on penicillin
        
        will only shorten symptoms by 8hrs, but prevents onset of sequelae (e.g. rheumatic fever)
