Data Analysis
I.Q.R
2-Find the median.
3-Calculate the median of both the lower and upper half of the data.
1-Order the data from least to greatest
4-The IQR is the difference between the upper and lower medians.
Example:
The two qurtiles are 6 and 9. 6 is Q1 and 9 is Q3. if you subtract 6 and 9 it equals 3. So your IQR (inerqurtile range) would be 3.
Box Plots
1- Order the set of numbers from least to greatest
2- Find the median of the data set
3- Find Q1 and Q3
4- Draw a number line with all of the number from the data set (and the numbers in between)
5- Then mark the first second and third qurtile
gfnagf
M.A.D
1) Find the mean of the numbers
2) Take the number you just got and subtract it by all of the addends
3) then add up all of the differences
4) The divide that sum by the number of addends
Example-
Step 2-- 15-9= 6
Step 2-- 9-4=5
Step 1- 7+11+4+15+8=45 45 divided by 5= 9
Step 2-- 11-9=2
15,7,8,11,4
Step 3- 6+2+1+2+5= 16
Step 2-- 9-8=1
Step 4- 16 divided by 5= 3.2
Step 2-- 9-7=2
Histograms
Example of Histogram:
A histogram is a style of table that represents the data through bars. The height and size of the bar represents how much of the data your measuring.
You find it by gathering all your data and then putting your data in the chart. You use the numbers on the side to graph your data.
You use a histogram to help you compare your data. You can use it ti visually see and comprehend the data.
Statistical Questions
Statistical Example: What is the typical number of pets owned by students in this class?
A statistical question is a question that can be answered by collecting data and the data has variability. A non-statistical question is a basic question with no variability, and with one solid answer.
Non-Statistical Example: How many pets does one classmate have?
You use a statistical question when your trying to find an average or a question that ahs variability.
You find it by adding variability to the question to create a statistical question.
Line Plot
Example of a Line Plot:
A line plot is a type of graph that shows data through a number line. It shows the frequency of the numbers. It is best to use a line plot when your comparing a small amount of numbers.
You use a line plot when you need to compare data. You use when you want to compare how much of something there is.
You first make a number line and graph the amount of numbers you have using X's to represent how much of your data you have.
Range
1) Order the numbers from least to greatist
2) Find the lowest and highest number
3) Subtract the highest number from the lowest number
Example-
Step 1- 4,6,7,11,15
15,7,6,11,4
Step 2- 4 and 15
Step 3- 15-4=11
Central Tendency
Median
First put them in least to greatest. You then count all the numbers and then find the middle. If there are 2 numbers you add them then divide by how many numbers you add up (which would be 2).
Example: 3, 6, 8, 21, 34
The middle would be 8. So your median is 8.
You use median when your trying to find the middle of a set of numbers.
Mean
You add all the numbers together then you divide by how many addends.
Example: 5+4+3+8+9+5+2+1+7=43 43 divided by 9= 4.7
You use mean to find the average of a group of numbers.
Mode
You use mode when your trying to find the number that is used/repeated the most.
First, put the numbers from least to greatest then find the number that is repeated the most.
Example: 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, That means 4 is the number repeated the most, so for is the mode.
