LIQUID CRYSTALS
-
PICTURE
ORIGIN: They're liquids, but the electricity makes the minerals inside them move.
COMPOSITE MATERIALS
USED TO: composite matreials are very light and very strong, so we use them to make things like fishing rods, tennis rackets, and planes. The plastic ones, you can weave them into special clothes. Some of these clothes are stronger than steel.
PICTURE:
ORIGIN: Composite materials are made by weaving, using mold, or fixing two materials together. Some composite materials are made of plastic, glass, or metal fibers.
FIBER-OPTIC CABLES
USED TO: They're used to send signals like television pictures and phone calls around the world.
Doctors use this with cameras inside to look inside people's bodies.
PICTURE
ORIGIN: they're long plastic tubes with transparent fibers inside. The fibers are made of glass or plastic and light can travel through them.
RECYCLED MATERIALS:
-
PICTURE
ORIGIN: These recycled materials, we can do them if we recycle our waste.
Materials made from oil
NATURAL GAS
ORIGIN: Natural gas has the same process as oil, but first it was called gas, but then it was called natural gas.
USED TO: We use it as fuel for some cars, for cooking, as electricity, and for heating.
PICTURE:
OIL
ORIGIN: Oil is made from tiny plants and animals that lived in the seas and oceans million years ago. After they died, the sand above them slowly became rock. The rock and heat under the ground changed them into a black liquid called oil.
USED TO: People use chemicals from oil to burn as fuels, like gasoline for cars. Other chemicals are made into new chemicals called petrochemicals. We use petrochemicals to do lots of different products.

-
USED TO: It's used to make paints, tom make the airplane windows and the fur on teddy bears.

-
ORIGIN: They are made from tiny tubes, fibers, or balls of atoms.

ELECTRONIC FABRIC
USED TO: They may have phones or computers and internet. And they may change the color of your jacket pushing a button.
PICTUE:
ORIGIN: electronic fabric feels like normal fabric, but it has electrical parts and threads.
Some types of electronic fabric will have fiber optic threads or liquid cristals that can change color
