Tim is 15. He goes to a party with two friends. At the party some people are smoking cannabis. Some of Tim's friends are pressuring him to join in and smoke cannabis with them.

-
Choice 1 - Tim refuses and voices his disappointment in his friends for smoking, he leaves the party and gets adults involved in the situation.
Positive Effects - Adults are involved in the situation so the other teenagers have sources to help them control their addictions and drug use. Tim remains healthy because he has not taken drugs.
Feelings - Tim feels glad that his friends have obtained the necessary help, he knows that they may not be thankful about his decision now, but they certainly will in the future when they are safe.
-
Choice 4 - He agrees but does not inhale so it appears that he is taking drugs but he is not consuming any substances.
Negative Effects - He is now involved in a long term lie as if this situation occurs again he will have to lie again. Tim may gain a negative reputation.
Feelings - Tim is worried about having to keep up this lie or having to come clean at some point. He is unsure about what his friends will think about him when they learn this information and that makes him nervous.
Positive Effects - Tim does not feel the effects of taking drugs on his body and he is able to maintain a friendship with these people.
Feelings - Tim is glad that his friends think that he is a part of the group and is taking drugs. He feels 'cool' and accepted among them,
I think that option 1 is the best long term decision because even if Tim looses these friends because they are a bad influence on him, but Tim also has given them the help they need to stay safe.
