Tim is 15. He goes to a party with two friends. At the party some people are smoking cannabis. Some of Tim's friends are pressuring him to join in and smoke cannabis with them.
Choice 3 - Tim decides to join in with his friends.
Choice 2 - Tim says no but remains at the party and does not show his disapproval of smoking.
Choice 1 - Tim refuses and voices his disappointment in his friends for smoking, he leaves the party and gets adults involved in the situation.
Negative Effect - His body and all aspects of his hauora feel the consequences of Tim's drug usage.
Choice 4 - He agrees but does not inhale so it appears that he is taking drugs but he is not consuming any substances.
Positive Effect - Tim continues to maintain a good relationship with his friends.
Negative Effects - Tim's friends do not receive the message that smoking and taking any form of drug illegally is not appropriate and damaging to one's health.
Positive Effects - Tim only slightly harms his relationship with his friends and he also does not feel the effects of alcohol on his hauora.
Positive Effects - Adults are involved in the situation so the other teenagers have sources to help them control their addictions and drug use. Tim remains healthy because he has not taken drugs.
Negative Effects - His relationship with his friends has been damaged in a detrimental way.
Negative Effects - He is now involved in a long term lie as if this situation occurs again he will have to lie again. Tim may gain a negative reputation.
Positive Effects - Tim does not feel the effects of taking drugs on his body and he is able to maintain a friendship with these people.
Feeling - Feels accepted by his friends as well as how you feel after taking drugs.
Feeling - Feels guilty and anxious of loosing his self-control and allowing himself to take drugs.
Feeling - Feels proud that he maintained his values and did not take drugs.
Feelings - Tim feels unsafe at the party because all those surrounding him are high on cannabis.
Feelings - Tim feels glad that his friends have obtained the necessary help, he knows that they may not be thankful about his decision now, but they certainly will in the future when they are safe.
Feelings - He feels guilty that he told on his friends despite them not wanting him to.
Feelings - Tim is glad that his friends think that he is a part of the group and is taking drugs. He feels 'cool' and accepted among them,
Feelings - Tim is worried about having to keep up this lie or having to come clean at some point. He is unsure about what his friends will think about him when they learn this information and that makes him nervous.
I think that option 1 is the best long term decision because even if Tim looses these friends because they are a bad influence on him, but Tim also has given them the help they need to stay safe.
