Myocardial Infarction
Definition
A heart attack, or myocardial infarction (MI), is permanent damage to the heart muscle.
Pathophysiology
MI is characterized by the necrosis of the cardiac cells due to low oxygen supply as a consequence of the occlusion of coronary arteries
It reduces cardiac output (CO) and blood pressure (BP) and induces compensatory mechanisms that acutely rescue the hemodynamics from collapse
