Macbeth
Setting
there was talks of temporarily moving parliament maybe this could have happened and it was moved to Scotland for a time.
alternatively I was watching the news and there was some protesters that stormed the houses of parliament and maybe to take inspiration from this we could have it that there have been so many protests in parliament that the government have been moved to a secret and more sacred location in Scotland, where more "peaceful" debates can take place.
The set would have to be quite grand and possibly quite rustic as well because if you look at pictures of places like Edinburgh and even the highlands the building are very old, grand and dated. they are usually surrounded by greenery and woodland, especially in the highlands. I think the grander settings would work because when you look at the houses of parliament it is a very grand structure inside and out.
characters
Macbeth
Macbeth is a very gullible character believing his much stronger wife although he does become very ambitious because he sees the power he could gain and what he could have and this drives him to kill.
Lady Macbeth is a very domineering character, she I greedy and ambitious (in the negative way) she will do anything to get what she wants and is willing to manipulate her husband to help her achieve her ambitions as well as kill people who she considers are in the way.

It is believed by some interpretations that lady Macbeth and Macbeth had a child together that died just after it was born, as she mentions a child in the script, but within context of the "Was the hope drunk" speech it could be seen that she is referring to her husband being a baby and that she has drip fed him the pathway to him becoming king and because he's backed out she thinks he is being childish and a baby.
Macbeth seems afraid of his wife and will do anything she says, especially if she's told him that it will help him gain more power.

King Duncan is the king of Scotland. He is the one who is seen to keep the piece he is viewed as being all powerful, yet he is orderly and kind.
Duncan doesn't see the betrayal that Macbeth is undertaking, but he does make Macbeth thane of Cawdor just as the witches promise.
Banquo is Macbeths closet friends and supports him during the battle, within the context this is being set in he could be as a front bencher and a minister .

Themes
one of the main themes is death so many characters get killed throughout and there are constant reminders of the lingering death.
Jealousy, both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth become more and more Jealous of what they don't have, with Lady Macbeth being already jealous of King Duncan and when she hears about the prophecy this jealousy goes through the roof
Ambition ties into the jealousy, because the idea that when lady Macbeth is jealous she has the ambition to make her jealous dreams become a reality. Lady Macbeth's ambition is forced onto her husband and then he starts to become ambitious too.
superstitions, curses and ghosts are all themes in Macbeth with the witches being the prime example of this and then when Banquo's ghost appears these themes come back into play.
Tied in with the theme of death within the play the use of the colour red has been known to be a popular colour when it comes to dressing the show whether that be with set, costume and lighting.
curses run throughout Macbeth and the witches curses are traditionally said not to be uttered by actors in the theatre before, during and after the show. This is because there are rumours the spells/curses the witches utter were real although this could just be down to rumours and superstition.
another thing is that the play is said to be cursed and actors are often very superstitious and won't utter the name of the play within the theatre walls therefore it has become well documented as being called the Scottish play and if the name is uttered actors will often go outside the theatre spin round three times, spit, curse then knock to be let back in again.
