Pollution
Pollution can enter a body of water in a few ways: eroded soil, acid rain, runoff containing fertilizers and pesticides, chemical releases, and in sewage or waste.

Sates develop a list for impaired waters, those that do not meet water quality standards.
Point Source Pollution - Comes from a specific source like a pipe. It can be monitored and controlled by a permit system. Factories, industries, and municipal treatment plants are examples of point source pollution.

NPS cannot be traced to a direct discharge point such as a wastewater treatment facility.

- Oil and grease from cars
- Fertilizers
- Animal waste
- Grass clippings
- Septic systems
- Sewage and cleaners from boats.
