Metabolism (One)
TCA Cycle
- One FAD is converted into 1 FADH2.
- Three NAD+ are converted into 3 NADH2.
-
- Coenzymes transfer them to the electron transport chain
-
- H+ and e- are removed (8). CO2 released
- At the end, nothing remains of the original Acetyl-CoA
- Acetyl CoA enters the cycle (2C), loses CoA and bonds with a 4C molecule (oxaloacetate)
Electron Transport Chain
- ‘carrier’ proteins on the inner membrane of the mitochondria power the synthesis of ATP
- wnergy is captured in the high energy bonds of ATP
- ATP leaves the mitochondria and enters the cytoplasm, where it can be used for energy
- 1 Cycle of TCA and ETC = 20 ATP Produced
- coenzymes deliver hydrogen electrons
Summary
- H and e- removed → to e- t/port chain
