Metabolism (One) (Summary (Glucose → Pyruvate, Enzymes & Coenzymes:…
Metabolism (One)
-
-
ATP
- The transfer of compounds across cell membranes
-
- It’s the final common pathway which provides energy for most body functions
- ATP molecules usually last for a few seconds
- It’s found in every cell in the body
-
Metabolism: They are broken down further into: Energy (ATP), H2O + CO2
-
Process
- The body converts the chemical energy of food to the chemical energy of ATP
- Coenzymes are required to facilitate reactions.
- Energy can be captured as ATP and used in other reactions
Summary
-
- Enzymes & Coenzymes: They can build more complex compounds or break them down for release of energy.
-
- Digestion: Carbs, Proteins and Fats are broken to Glucose, Glycerol, Fatty acids, and Amino acids
-
- ATP is the body’s energy currency
-
Energy Metabolism
-
nutrients - digestive tract - liver (metabolises, packages, stores, ships) - other organs/cells
