The sequence of bases, makes up the genetic code .and the deoxyribose sugar is bonded to the phosphate through covalent bonds.

The strands of polynucleotides are always anti-parallel, they are read in the 5-3' direction, as the strand that has the 5th carbon at the top, is the leading strand.
The phosphate chains are hydrophillic, and so are on the outside, the nitrogenous bases are reacitve and are on the inside, hydrogen bonds hold the complimentary base pairs together
Complementary base pairing, prevents mistakes.
Nucleosomes
They hold the DNA together to form the frame of chromosomes. and DNA wraps around each nucleosome(which is made up of around histone proteins.) twice before moving on to the next one.
