Tier 1:
Teach coping skills to whole class
Teach conflict resolution, including role playing, to the whole class
Remind and discuss these techniques with students when they fail to use them and a conflict explodes
Teach relaxation techniques to the whole class

Tier 2:
Check In Check Out
Check in with me at the beginning of the day for specific daily goals such as trying a specific relaxation technique or employing a practiced response to conflict resolution. Then, check out at the end of the day for a written certificate outlining the goals met or unmet that day to be signed by a parent.
Teach any of the tier 1 coping, conflict resolution, or relaxation techniques individually for focused attention.
Provide rewards for making positive choices; track this on individual star chart (not public chart)
choose a book for the teacher to read to the class
choice of classroom helper job assignment
recognition during the morning announcements
outdoor lunch time for the class
send home positive notes to parents or a phone call
Tier 3:
Behavior meetings including parents
speak calmly and politely about past and recent behavior, issues inside and outside school, interventions implemented, and future intervention plans
include positive attributes and achievements of the child, too
Daily behavior form
personal chart indicating specific behaviors to be tracked - positive and negative to show visually the difference as one increases and another decreases
Structured breaks
Student or teacher can initiate a break to serve as a cool down period. The student takes a "break" card or pass and a timer for 5 minutes or less to a non-disruptive location. The teacher praises the cooperation and achievement of the child in succeeding in the break.
