Staircase
- Baluster- A vertical member, used to fill the open area between the railing and the floor or tread, adding safety, support and stability to the balustrade
- Nosing- The portion of tread or landing tread which protrudes beyond the face of the riser.
- Flight- a series of steps without a landing
- Handrail- The railing used as hand support in balustrade system
- Tread- Horizontal top surface of step used by occupant to going up and down
- Closed string- a side member of a stair that serves both carriage and finishes face.
- Step- combination on tread and riser by a string
- Newel- newel posts are located at the bottom and top of a staircase and positiond at turns and support positions for the balcony rail
- Landing- an intermediate floor or platform between flights of stairs. Landing permit directional changes in stair travel.
