Why do disparities in wealth and development exist, and is it possible to eliminate them?
INDIA
SEXISM
"DOWRY"
When becoming married the wife's family must pay the bride and groom, usually costing poorer families a huge amount of money
This leads to families of the bride losing huge amounts of money just because their daughter is getting married. This is once of the main reasons as to why people do not want to give birth to a girl, because they are viewed of as a hassle.
"3 TIME TALAQ"
Men are able to divorce from their wives just by saying the word "talaq" three times. Usually this occurs when a bride becomes pregnant with a girl, because girls are frowned upon.
This leads to more women having to raise children on their own. This also symbolises that men are able to have whatever they want, whereas women are not.
"RELIGION AND BELIEFS" In many Hindu and Muslim religion, men have always been the superior gender.
Due to the main issue being religion and beliefs, this means it will be far harder for women to be treated equally. The reason for this is because due to the fact that the religion is hundreds of years old, it means less people are going to want to go against it.
"EDUCATION" Because women are "frowned" upon, in most states of India they have been stripped of the right to an education.
This leads to less women being able to find employment. This then makes the government have to pay money in order to support them because they are not able to work. Therefore leading to the economy losing huge amounts of money which is not allowing them do develop.
THE "GAP" IN AUSTRALIA
STOLEN GENERATION
At one stage of Australia's history, the English settlers wanted to get rid of Aboriginal people all together. Because of this is means that many families have been stripped of their culture, usually meaning that they feel lost
Because adults have been taken away from their own parents at such a young age, it means they have not grown up knowing how to love. This means they are not able to give their own children love and sympathy. This leads to children getting into trouble due to the fact that they have issues at home and are lonely.
Aboriginal people who had been taken away from their parents when they were young have many mental illnesses that will never go away because of this. Mental illnesses include anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc.
STEREOTYPING
Due to the fact that many Non-Aboriginal Australians think that they are superior to Aboriginal people, Aboriginals are not going to work or school. This then leads to them being stereotyped and the cycle starts all over again.
Many Aboriginals spend their time outside. For example in the parklands of Adelaide. They are usually drinking and passing civilians think that they are addicts or worse, when really Non- Aboriginal do the same but instead in their homes.
Makes Aboriginal people have low self esteem. This can lead to mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression etc.
TANZANIA
UNSAFE DRINKING WATER
"SICKNESS"
Government losing money because they have to care for the sickly, who are not earning money, therefore not contributing to the economy
Children are getting sick, then not being able to go to school. Without being educated the next generation will not have the skills in order to over come issues such as unsafe drinking water.
SOLUTIONS
INDIA
States such as Kerala are much more developed then other states. This shows that their are areas of Tanzania who are affected and the rest of the country should be able to do the same.
GAP
Companies such as AIME have been set up in order to guide Aboriginal people who have not experienced the same as Non- Aboriginal people.
TANZANIA
Government has installed piping facilities in order for water to remain clean. However, because it is so expensive to run some remote areas are not able to afford it.
