Genital exam
Usually unilateral swelling, no skin changes/heat/erythema,
non tender, not separate to testes, able to get above,
soft and fluctuant, transilluminates

Scrotal swelling (SOCRATES)
Any trauma, pain, itch, discharge,

Indication: fit for surgery
MOA: Lord (placate TV), Jaboulays (invert sac)

Watchful waiting (spontaneous resolution)
Refer to urology/general surgery
Pathophysiology
Defect
Multiple causes resulting in
fluid accumulation in the tunica vaginalis
PV often closes months after birth, so hydrocoeles often self resolve in young infants
Mechanism
Fluid accumulation causes scrotal swelling
