Digital Age
Digitization of data
Advantage
The digitization of collections is often praised not only for its preservation benefits but also for its social ones, as it can facilitate increased access to and interaction with information….. especially information that is scarce or unique. Likewise, when major research libraries were beginning to digitize their special collections at the beginning of the century, the move was lauded for extending hitherto limited accessibility beyond onsite visitors, giving researchers better access to rare materials, and creating new users. Collection of data without user knowledge
Data Trading for financial gain .
Suggested solution
Governance measures that require the developers of social networking sites to revise their designs fail to address the diffuse nature of ethical responsibility in this case. Such technologies need to be opened up to scrutiny regularly to increase public awareness of the issues and thereby disclose concerns to a wider audience. The authors suggest that there is value in studying the development and use of these technologies in their infancy, or if established, in the experiences of novice users. Furthermore, flashpoints in technological trajectories can prove useful sites of investigation. From module 4
