GRAVE & SPANR of Multi-Store Model of Memory
Application
'Working memory' tells us how to improve our memory in everyday situations
Allows us to know how effectively store info in our LTM/STM
Also has elements of application for sufferers of dementia/brain damage
Generalisability
Is generalisable
Can be applied to many people/everyone as its a universal trait
Many studies have been carried out using various participants, all which achieved similar results
Reliability
Theory = reliable
Numerous case studies which support idea & provide evidence for it
Ethics
Unethical element to this is revealing 'Henry Molaisons' name after he died (unless was previously agreed)
Also stress may be caused when old memories are brought up, so protection of participants aren't thoroughly thought about
Validity
Is valid
Many case studies to support this
But, Shallice & Warrington 1970 reports a victim of a motorbike accident who could still add memories to his LTM, even though his STM was damaged - contradicts MSM
Practical Application
Theory is fairly easy to investigate, such as the Brown-Peterson technique, observation is only required to achieve results
Reductionism
Is a simple theory although there are multiple stages to it
Also fairly easy to investigate
Nurture
Results obtained are mainly due to biological factors of the brain rather than environmental or situational factors
Social Control
Theory has provided reasoning for certain memory problems & has given us info on how to commit info to the LTM, & reasonings for this
Can also be applied to anyone making it highly beneficial
