visual discourse
education system- it doesn't seem to work!? everyone is different.
"the game that some people can never win"
art and design school used to be a place where all sorts of people could flourish- e.g. ADD/ ADHD but now the system has changed and by loosing these people, we are losing a lot of creativity in our design schools.
VISUAL DISCOURSE IDEA- shape game for children but all the shapes are black squares and the shapes are all different shapes with colours that don't fit into the game- a model explaining our flawed education system.
VISUAL DISCOURSE IDEA SKETCH
Play dough- education system tries to mould us
shapes . When you are a kid you play that game with the shapes where you fit shapes into other shapes.
Visual idea? person trying to fit into a door that is a specific shape.
VISUAL DISCOURSE IDEA- a film showing people with crazy sized and shaped cutouts on heads and trying to get through doorways, and the reactions they receive from the public. showing the societal push to conform in education to specific shapes and sizes and how it excludes certain minorities right from the beginning.
our education system is a reflection of the real world.
image that conveys the world without art & design - a bleak and un-colourful, un-interesting world.
art & design students express the things said to them about their subject of study
"but how are you going to make money"
"thats not a real degree"
"i'm looking for an artist/photographer who can help me who does it just for fun"- artists and designers regularly being mistreated in the industry and used for free- it is an industry seen as a hobby and not as a worthy career choice.
semiotics of animals and personalities
sometimes people present themselves in ways they want to be perceived
"hipsters""goths" "preppy"
This does not mean these people are actually like this e.g. dress's like a hippie but is actually really highly strung and not free spirited
Narnia like creatures- hybrid animals trying to explain peoples personalities e.g. owl & rabbit etc.
