Intervention For an Unmotivated Student
The Issues
Student does not care about classes, subject matter studying for tests etc.
Needs to be regularly commanded to stay on task
Does not start/finish class activities
Doesn't participate in group/pair work
Tier 1 Intervientions
Assign a buddy or a partner- Phat has been assigned to work with one of the high achieving students who he also gets on well with. This will hopefully make class more enjoyable for Phat and push him/
Rewards and incentives- Phat has been given an incentive scheme whereby he earns points when he is on task, completes his work in the allotted and participates in class discussions.
Tier 1 Data Tracking Tools
Daily Postive Behaviour Tracking Form- This is in the form of a checklist which is filled in with emojis by Phat and the teacher at the end of every exam.
Tier 2 Interventions
Self-monitoring- The sit down meeting with the student with this time include parent and or school counselor. This will be down by me, the Head of Department and the School Principal.
Individual and Visual Schedules- Phat would be required to prepare this for himself as part of his intervention plan.
Behaviour Intervention Plan- This would be created by me in collaboration with the School Principal and explained to Phat by the two of us.
Tier 2 Data Tracking Tools
Behaviour Tracking Form plus a Behaviour Form to deal with Identified Problem Behaviours
Student Self-Assessment Sheet
Tier 3 Interventions
Behaviour meetings- This will have to include Phat's parents, the school principal and a translator. It may be that Phat needs to go and see a counselor to help improve his behaviour. However, we do not have one at school so this would have to be an outside referral.
Tier 3 Data Tracking Tools
Meeting Agenda and Meeting Notes to be shared with all participants.
School Counseling Referral Form + Consent form from legal guardian.
