still I rise
First paragraph
q4 Tone: Do you think the author has a positive or negative attitude toward the subject? (Or a different feeling toward the subject of the poem?) Explain.
an4 The tone for the poem is positive and encouragement, because the line 'still, I'll rise', was repeated and it had a huge impact that made the poem more positive as it reminded me to rise every time I fall
q5 Mood: What is the mood of the poem? Is it happy, sad, devastating, etc.? Which words contribute to the overall mood?
an5 I felt supportive and motivated while reading the poem because words like 'rise' and 'hopes' made the message clear

an3 The poem talks about how people struggle and face from society or people around them which lets them down, but after a while we'll see a strong come back for these people
q2 What is your first impression of the poem? Do you like it? Why or why not?
an2 When I first read the poem the words the poet used attracted me and I gave my full attention to it I liked the poem because when I read it I didn't think about a specific range of age, all people can go through hard and dark moments and not only specific people
q6 6. Do you think the poem has a purpose? What do you think it is? What do others (experts) think it is?
Yes the poem has a purpose which is sharing and spreading positivity, and I don't think other people would take this poem as an offensive poem
q1 What does the title tell you about the poem
an1 I think it talks about how people wake up from their dark moments and come back stronger

q9 What do you know about that time period?
an9 I know that the afghanistan war was held in the year 1978
q10 Where was the poet living and what was he/she doing (working, going to school, etc.) at that time?
an10 Maya lived in the united states, and like usual she was writing her ideas down in a form of a poem
q8 When was the poem written and/or published (year)?
an8 the poem was published in 1978
q11 Do you think what was going on during that time period had anything to do with this poem? Explain.
an11 No i don't think so because in the poem it said 'you may shoot me with your eyes', and i don't it has something to do with the shooting guns i the afghan war. She said that just to express.
q7 Does the author write about a person or event from history? Explain.
an7 I don't think the poem or the poet talks about a specific event or person, because all people can feel the negativity and hate, since it never end, however no wants to feel them
Third paragraph
q13 What is the type of the poem?
an13 I believe that it's lyric, because Angelou is expressing her feelings about a main subjects that several people spoke and wrote about
q14 Does the poem rhyme?
an14 I believe that yes the poem rhymes, because throughout reading the poem I feel like most words have alike words in the pronunciation perspective
q12 Are there any divisions in the poem? (Separate stanzas)
an12 In the poem 'Still I Rise' the poet wrote seven stanzas and in every stanza there are four sentences
q15 Does it follow a particular rhyme scheme? If so, explain.
an15 No the poem doesn't follow a particular rhyme scheme and that's because the rhyme scheme changes in the first stanza the rhyme scheme is, a,b,c,b and in the second d,e,f,e, and so on.
Fifth paragraph
q20 Does the poem compare things without using like or as (metaphors)?
an20 Metaphor was what the poem mainly consisted of for example 'You may shoot me with your words', is a metaphor because it compared the bullet to the words. They both come out from a dangerous place. Bullets come out from guns and words come out from mouths. 'I'm a black ocean' is a popular line the poet wrote down, which compared the ocean to herself, because they both are big. Maya wanted to show people that she is huge not bodily but internally. All these incredibly meaningful lines made me understand the poem further and in a second perspective
q21 Does the poem give non-human things human characteristics (personification)?
an21 I couldn't find personification, but repetition of the word rise. The word rise was mostly found in every stanza, and that's because Maya wanted to reassure and state that she'll always rise no matter what. The word rise is a small word that carries behind it lots of ideas, that's why the poet repeated it more than once
q19 Does the poem use any comparisons of things using the words “like” or “as” (similes)?
an19 Angelou included a lot of figurative language and one of them was simile in 'just like moon and just like suns'. Which means that she compared her self to the moon and sun to what they have in common which is light which is also referred to hope in this poem 'like air i'll rise'. also comparison between herself and the air because they both rise. As we can see she used mostly the word like. As it has a great impact on the poem which is visualizing, it helps the read imagine the line going on in their heads
Fourth paragraph
q17 What do the words alone tell you? (What does it make you think of?)
an17 Of course we all know that every word completes other words to form a meaningful sentence, yet here not all the words would have a meaning if you read them by themselves but words like rise and soulful made me think of a strong and an independent person that never looks down
q18 Are there any difficult or confusing words? List them.
I found one word that is haughtiness, and an other word but understood its meaning from the sentence which is trod
q16 Why do you think the author chose to use those particular words?
an16 Because words like rise can be used in so many phrases, yet it has the same meaning however it changes from a physical meaning to an emotional one. When the poet used rise in this poem she meant rise emotionally, you may rise after a sorrowful moment or rise where you motivate yourself on doing something no one else can
Sixth paragraph
q24 Do you think your classmates would like this poem? Why or why not?
q24 I think everybody will like this poem, that's for its easy and simple form yet a significant poem
q25 Why is this poem relevant today? (Importance/impact.)
an25 Because it holds a dream that is extremely needed in nowadays, not only old people want positivity but us too, even young kids
q23 After researching and analyzing the poem, has your opinion of the poem changed at all? If so, how? If not, why not?
an23 Digging deeper into gold mines will always end up in worthy and satisfying results, and that's exactly why I'm sticking to my opinion, and that it's a great poem. This poem gripped into one hopeful message everybody dreams of
q26 How will this poem be relevant in the future?
an26 if peace and positivity are applied in the future, next generations will know that the world lived once in a dark and a non-trusty one, so they'd be carful not to break the positive attitude bond that connects one another
q22 Ask yourself “So what?” about the poem. What is the point of it? Why do you think the author wrote it?
an22 Maya wanted to deliver one idea and that is positivity is the key to a better world, and as a poet Maya had one way to deliver that message, which is through a poem. She hoped that the message can be vivid so it can be applied in every step a person takes, because positivity is the key to a better world.
q27 How does this poem inspire readers?
an27 As I previously said what everybody dreams of is needed, it motivates us as readers to actually start working on the need so it can be available once and always.
