LEARNING APPROACH
PEDAGOGY
- The objective is to teach basic skills as a foundation for future projects – scaffolding.
- The instructor's role is to teach, demonstrate, help learners do the maker education project correctly.
- Usually they use of prescribed kits, templates; step-by-step directions and tutorials so that learners understand better.
- The outcome from this is they will produce something, exactly based on what they learn. This is because they got the idea and knowledge on their instructor only.
Example of the learner: Kindergarten students, primary school students.
ANDRAGOGY
- The objective is to provide some structure so learners can be self-directed when not around the instructor.
- The role of the instructor is to facilitate, assist learners, mentor them. The rest is the learner's responsibilities to learn more.
- The mediums they use are templates; learners add their own designs and embellishments.
- A maker project or the instructor has some attributes of the original model but that includes the learner’s original ideas. Because it includes both the learner and instructor.
Example of the learner: Secondary students, university students.
HEUTAGOGY
- The goal is to establish an environment where learners can determine their own goals, learning paths, processes, and products for making.
- The instructor exists to coach, mentor, be a sounding board, be a guide very much on the side.
- This approach is more to open ended and determined by the learner. This is because it is more learner's initiative to learn and produce module.
- The end product is a project that is unique to the learner and also to other people as they get new experience from the end product.
