Brief
One of the latest trends within the Graphic Design, Advertising and Photography industry are “Drawings over Photographs”. This includes hand drawings or vector graphics created on the computer over the top of photographs to create another experience. Local artists to fashion photographers’ even large department stores are now using this format.
Part One: Planning Process
a) Unpack the assessment through the use of a mind map or coggle
b) Personalise the Electronic Visual Diary template to suit your style
c) Research different styles of “Drawings over Photographs”. Find twenty (20) examples from a range of different style to draw inspiration from.
d) Based on the styles that are discussed in class, plan two (2) concepts per month:
-What style will best suit each of the months
-What photo you want to use as the background
-What illustration will over the top
e) Gather feedback on your concepts to finalise which image will be shot and drawn
f) Draw thumbnail sketch of what the final design will look like for each month. When drawing the composition of the photo think about:
-How the object/person needs to be sitting /positioned
-How will the image be cropped (landscape/square)
-How much space do you need around the image for your drawing.
Explain in your EVD:
-Do you need any special lighting
-How the elements and principles of design are utilised
g) For each month plan what equipment and props you will need to use and where the shoot will take place
h) Describe the WHS procedure you will need to follow for the different types of shoots that you are participating in
i) Capture any required images in RAW (make a studio time booking if required).
Part Two: Enhance Images Process
a) transfer the images from the SD card to the computer
b) Using Adobe Bridge, rename, rate/cull and apply metadata
c) Create contact sheets for the final images and get ticks as feedback to help narrow down your final background image
d) Make any enhancements to the background image that is required using Adobe Photoshop. Explain what you have done to the image
e) Use Adobe Illustrator to create your drawings for over the photo. Explain what process you took to create them
f) Combine the two elements in a stand-alone file for each month
g) Post the twelve (12) images onto the Connect discussion boards for feedback
h) Make any alterations to your images based on the feedback received
i) Place the final twelve (12) images into the calendar template
j) Style the calendar to tie in with the picture
k) Print the finished calendar, cut and bind together
