Motivational Theorists
Mazlow
-
Belief
Maslow believed that all of the needs of employees can be structured into a hierarchy, in order of importance.
-
FW Taylor
Belief
FW Taylor had a theory based around the idea that people were motivated by monetary gain, rather than other factors such as needs being met, working environment etc.
-
Mcgregor
Belief
McGregor came up with what involved 'Theory X' and 'Theory Y'.
Theory X workers are said to be uninterested in the work they are doing and are only interested in the money they are receiving.
Theory Y workers are said to be heavily involved in the work they are doing and are motivated by the job itself, rather than the money.
-
Mayo
Belief
Mayo believed that workers are not just concerned with money but could be better motivated by having their social needs met whilst at work (something that Taylor ignored).
