The witness is encouraged to answer questions with respect ("yes sir", "no sir", "yes, Your Honor", "no, Your Honor). If the witness is approached by the attorney in an aggressive manner, he or she should remain professional, composed and objective, use volume and tone to deflect hostility, and explain answers if necessary. The witness should NOT become agitated or argumentative, allow the attorney to put words into their mouth, or become personally invested in the case/ its outcome.
