The machine cutting the desired tool uses metal that is harder than the tool it is designing to successfully remove the metal. If the force used to removed metal becomes to high, chips may form, removing theses chips results in subclass or individual characteristics. Lathe operations are used to form a tool by rotating the exterior of a workpiece against a cutting tool. Milling is done by rotating multi toothed cutters into the workpiece. Other operations include shaping, planing, drilling, reaming, broaching, sawing, filing, and abrasive machining.
