DIFFERENT APPROACHES TO HOME SCHOOLING
Relaxed or Eclectic Homeschooling Approach
Based on
Used most. Little of everything, using workbooks as well as using Unschooling approach with some subjects.
Times
There are no specific time table, mornings used for formal work and afternoons for hobbies and special projects.
Goals
Children are expected to meet certain educational goals.
Advantage
Parents feel important subjects are covered thoroughly. Family choose the text books.
Fieldtrips and classes fit their needs and interests.
Disadvantage

The School-At-Home Approach
Advantage
Families know exactly what to teach and when to teach it.
Times
There schedule is established by the curriculum they purchase.
Disadvantage
This method requires much more work on the part of the teacher/parent, lessons are not as much fun for the children.

Maths:
Using text book and workbook.

Using text books and occasional experiments.

Usually a foreign language audio program, an art course.

Most often portrayed in media, easy to understand.
Children study around the table, most expensive method. Highest burnout rate.

Following different subjects and lesson plans to reach their goals.
Unschooling Approach
Goals
They learn from everyday life experiences by following their interests by persueing an interest or curiosity to reach their goals.
Advantage
Unschooled children have the time and research abilities to become experts in their areas of interest.
Disadvantage
They don’t follow the typical school schedule, and don’t do so well on grade level assessment.
Based on
Also known as hack schooling, doesn’t use only one curriculum, based on children’s interests. Relaxed setting like Starbucks.

Classical homeschoolers have a unique way of creating History Notebooks

Use a set daily schedule starting at 05:00 ending at 21:00 including all chores

Charlotte Mason Approach
Goals
Believe that children are not mere containers waiting to be filled but persons in their own right deserving of respect, given time to play and create
Advantage
They know not by taking tests but via narration and discussion.
Times
They keep variety in their schedules, they do academics in the morning, resting the children’s minds in the afternoons they switch between easy/challenging tasks and active/passive tasks.
Based on
They get involved with real- life situations, this include nature walks, visits to museums. In this method they spend lots of time outdoors, they are encouraged to keep a journal, they don’t do boring. Fridays are reserved for trips.
