Videographer/Editor in Seattle
Me at Work
I'm good at getting large amounts of work done in spurts, as well as breaking up large tasks into smaller ones. Experience in the video field leaves me equipped to handle every step of the process, from file management, to production, to editing.
I value a position that allows me to express my creativity in my work whilst also allowing me to expand my skillset. I also value a company that adequately pays its videographers.
As someone who is creative and focused, videographer/editor is a great job for me. It allows me to create something that always has my personal touch, and always gives me a task to focus on.
The ethics of videography largely revolve around creating your own work and not using the work of others without express permission. Walking the line between inspiration and plagiarism is one that is constantly walked in the video field, and of course anything dealing with copyright laws.
Compensation
$50,000/yr average. Can go up to $100k.
Depends on the job itself, but larger production companies will usually offer the expected benefits like health care and 401k.
A comparable salary to $50,000/yr in Ohio is ~$80,000/yr in Seattle
Median rent for a 2-bedroom apartment is ~$2,500 a month

Life-Long Learner
I plan on keeping up with my industry by browsing the job market and keeping in touch with my peers. I have contacts that I've had the pleasure of meeting over the years that I could always fall back on and have a discussion with, and I'm sure I would meet many more industry professionals in a more populated area like Seattle.
Solo practitioners are in high demand. Everywhere on job listings I see "solo production" mentioned in some way. Companies want to hire someone who can manage a large chunk of the video production process on their own.
As cross-media becomes more and more integrated into more areas of society, video will continue to rise in demand. Everyone wants a nice, high-quality video to advertise their startup business. Companies that can churn out high-quality videos that suit a wide variety of needs in a short period of time will thrive.
Unless the company I work for wants, and therefor would offer to pay for me to get another degree, I don't have any plans of earning another degree.

Long-term Goals
If at all possible, I would like to be able to put money away into savings/401k immediately. This may or may not be possible depending on the starting salary I earn, but it's something I'm actively planning for.
Long term, I would like to invest in a car, preferably one that will last a good while, os it's a fairly large investment. On top of that, I'm always looking to invest more into my personal equipment and home setups.
