Poetry as technique

Some authors write sonnets while some others have others specific ways
:

Shakespeare's sonnets

Written predominantly in a specific meter

IAMBIC PENTAMENTER

= 10 syllables each lines divided in 5 pairs = IAMBIC FEET

A iamb = a metrical unit made up of 1 unstressed syllable followed by 1 stressed syllable

Rythm

unstressed, unaccented, weak syllable = off-beat

stressed, accented, strong syllable = a beat

A poem

could give visual aspect or even have absence of rhymes

question of era

Won't be the same kind of poem

question of topic

not the same writing - not the same interest = society changes

question of moment

Mix between styles => Shakespeare plays

1 unit = 1 foot

2 syllables

IAMB = x/ = iambic rythm

TROCHEE= /x = trochaïc rythm

SPONDEE = //

pyrrich = xx

3 Syllables

Anapest = xx/

Dactyl = /xx

Number of stresses gives its name to the line

3 = Trimeter

4 = Tetrametre

5 = Pentametre
