What is Six Sigma ?
As a METRIC ?
Defects, DPU(defects per unit), PPM(parts per million), DPMO(defects per million opportunities), RTY(rolled throughput yield), FTY(first time yield), s(sigma)

As a MEASURE?
the probability of creating a defect can be estimated and translated into s "Sigma" level. Six Sigma refers to 1 process having 6 Standard Deviations between the average of the process center and the closest specification limit. The higher the sigma level, the better the performance.
As a goal? as example hanging fruit: the higher the fruit, the more challenging it is to obtain. Sweet fruit, bulk of fruit, low hanging fruit, ground fruit
As a METHOD ?
DMAIC: Define( the business opportunity), Measure(the process current state) + Analyze(determine root cause or Y = f(x) +Improve(eliminate waste and variation) + Control(evidence of sustained results) method for applying Six Sigma to improve processes.
-
VOC + VOB + VOE
VOC(voice of customers) is customer driven VOB(voice of business) is profit driven VOE(voice of employee) is process driven
-
COPQ( cost of poor quality) measure in loss of profit that results from errors & inefficiencies in processes, it is the waste we are seeking to eliminate. It include: external costs, internal costs, prevention cost and appraisal costs(audit)
Six Sigma Fundamentals
Process Maps(flowchart) it is a technique/tool to visualize the tasks, activities & steps to produce a process or service.
