macrovascular complication
nursing care plan
DYSPNOEA, FATIGUE AND WEAKNESS
Give oxygen therapy as prescribed
Monitor rate and character of respiration and tissue perfusion
Position patient in high fowler’s position
Support patient with pillows
Nurse the patient on bed rest
PAIN AND DISCOMFORT
Implement fluid and sodium restrictions as prescribed, this will help to reduce ascites (fluid retention)
Note any increase in abdominal distention by measuring abdominal girth every morning
Monitor and record intake of food & fluid and also output of fluids & vomitus
Test urine daily for proteins, blood and weigh daily to monitor oedema present
POTENTIAL FOR ANXIETY
Educate the patient about the condition they are suffering from and importance of taking medication to enhance self-management and autonomy
signs and symptoms
coronary artery diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease and infection
pathophysiology
disease of large arteries that comprises of artherosclerosis with deposits of lipids within the inner layer of vessel wall
there are enzymes in the body that normally convert glucose into other sugar, such as sorbitol and fructose to lower the blood glucose
sorbitol, fructose and glucose accumulate in the basement membrane of the cell wall causing intracellular oedema, which affects cell function
the thickened basement membrane increases the distance over which nutrients and waste products must travel into and from the cell, resulting in adequate oxygenation, nutrition and waste disposals
CAUSES
Diabetes mellitus
