Planes of movements and Axis of Rotation
3 types of planes
Frontal
Transverse
Sagittal
Sagittal plane
Movements are flexion and extension
Sporting example is hip and knee flexion during running aciton
Vertically splits the body into left and right parts
Frontal plane
Movements are abduction and adduction
Sporting example is shoulder and hip abduction in the outward phase of a star jump

Transverse Plane
Rotation movement occurs
Sporting example is roation as a tennis player puts spin on the ball
Horizontally splits the body into upper and lower parts
3 types of axis

Transverse
Longitudinal
Transverse axis
Sporting example is high board diver performing somersault
Horizontal axis running from side to side
Longitudinal axis
Vertical axis which runs from top to bottom of the body
Sportinhg example is ice skater performing flat spin
Frontal axis
Gymnast performing cartwheel
Horizontal axis running from front to back of body
