1960: The independence of the Congo Free State. Now called the Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 30th

1842: The Treaty of Nanking. China gave 5 more ports of trading to British, granted them extraterritorial right, and gave island of Hong Kong to the British
1856-60: 2nd Opium war. Now involved the French because of the death of the French Catholic missionary, Auguste Chapdelain
1839-42: First Opium War over fight about the use of opium in trades with China. China inevitably lost
1860: Treaty of Tientsin. After more Chinese defeat China gave more ports to British and allowed them to navigate more Chinese land

World War I
1916: July 1, Battle of the Somme. This was marked as the midpoint of the war. The battle was fought over French and Belgium lands.
1918: End of World War I. This led to some changes such as end of Imperial Russia, end of Ottoman Empire, redrawing of the Middle East, etc.
1914: June 28, death of Franz and his wife. This was one cause that started World War I
1919: The Paris Peace Conference and Treaty of Versailles occurred. 30 total nations participated and 4 major ones were included: UK, France, USA, and Italy.
