Epidemiology
Incidence is 1-2/100,000 per year

Signs
Progressive phase of 4 weeks, followed by recovery
Proximal muscles are more affected e.g. trunk, respiratory, cranial nerves (esp VII)
Can advance quickly, affecting all limbs at once and causes paralysis of diaphragm
A few weeks after infection, a symmetrical ascending muscle weakness starts

85% make complete recovery, 10% mortality
