Instructivist
- Emphasis is on the transmission of of information in a traditional classroom situation.
- A lot of lectures
- Reduced communications .
- Information in well structured “chunks
- It is an approach teacher centred.
- The information taught is often “decontextualised”.
- A lot of repetitions
- Skinner, Thorndike, Watson.
Weaknesses
- Learning the stuff necessary to get good grades on the tests.
- Critical, independent thinking and acting are often weak points
- Depend on instructions from somebody ”who knows” to lead, motivate and correct
Strengths
- The teacher controls what is ”served”.
- Discipline and correct individual behaviour are
important values.
- It is easy to control curriculum and content

When to use
For learning by heart, drilling, study a
text and for the sake of studying, testing
Constructivist
- Students are active learners.
- Students construct their knowledge(Previous experiences)
- Own learning responsibility
- “Learner centred”.
Teachers are guides on the sides
- Problem Based Learning.
Strengts
- Student develops independence and creativity.
- Critical thinking is important.
- The learning is contextualised
- It encourages learning rather than performance
Weaknesses
- It is time consuming to find out by trial and error.

Take into account
- The good pedagogue knows when to choose what tool and how long to use it.

- Constructivism is as a rule time consuming and demanding
- Students join a knowledge generating a community.
- Learning takes place in“zones of proximal development
- Novices meet and interact with more advanced peers.
- Competence increases through sociocultural development
- The tasks will be processing and assessing, negotiate
meaning and generating and coconstructing new knowledge.
- Learning is a social activity.
- Students develop core values like: courage, compassion, curiosity,
respect, responsibility and integrity
