Tarpaulin
-Plus-
Another adavantage is that tarpaulin is Water resistant/Waterproof. When theirs rain or a storm it wont get affected as much as other materials.
An advantage of using tarpaulin is that the material is thick and strong. When theirs strong currents of wind, the material will hold, depending on what you use to keep it together.
Another advantage is that tarpaulin is Washable and Mildewproof. It will be good that the material is washable and rot proof in case blood leaks onto the material.
-Minus-
A disadvantage is that it takes up too much room in your backpack. When your out in the bush, you cant exactly carry anything big with you that can weigh you down and taking tarp with you can weigh you down.
Another disadvantage is that it can be uncomfortable. When your being carried out of the bush on tarp, it can be uncomfortable due to the rough feeling tarp has when it rubs on your skin.
A disadvantage is it may rip, depending on how old it is. If its a pretty old piece of tarp then it will be in a risk zone that it will rip when your carrying someone.
Sticks and Branches
-Minus-
A disadvantage of using sticks and branches is that it rots. Once a branch has broken/fallen off a tree, it has a limited time before it starts rotting and disintegrating.
Another disadvantage for using sticks and branches is that they are not strong/easily breaks. Any sort of sticks and branches snap quite easily when a huge amount of pressure is laid on them
A disadvantage of using sticks and branches is that its not Waterproof/Water resistance. Wood absorbs water to make it larger in size which can affect the time of rotting and can snap more easily.
-Plus-
An advantage of using sticks and branches is that its lightweight. Sticks and branches have a lightweight feeling and are not heavy, so it’s definitely possible to be carried easily.
Another advantage of using sticks and branches is that it can be easily carried. Because of the way its constructed it can be easily carried by people and not leave such a pain.
An advantage of using sticks and branches is that they are constantly available. When your in the bush and need to make a stretcher due to a serious injury, sticks and branches are readily available because trees are always around you and have branches.
Rope
-Minus-
A disadvantage of using rope is that it may be too frayed. When using rope you’ve gotta make sure that the ends aren’t frayed or else the grip wont be as tight and tough any longer.
Another disadvantage of using rope is that it may not be long enough. If your creating a stretcher, you’ve gotta be pretty certain that their will be enough rope to support and hold everything together or else it will be too unbalanced and you’ll fall off.
A disadvantage of using rope is that it may be past its use of date. If you bring with you rope thats out of date, it can when your being carried rip and leaving you falling to the ground, creating another serious injury.
-Plus-
An advantage of using rope is that the knots created are firm. When creating a stretcher you need to tie knots so that it can hold other materials and tieing rope into knots are pretty firm and holdable.
Another advantage of using rope is that its water resistant. If a storm decided to approach you in the bush, the rope will be able to keep its grip when showers of rain come down and soak into the rope.
An advantage of using rope is that its thick and strong. When using rope for a stretcher, its thick and strong leaving it to be able to hold materials firmer with a person on top.
Duct Tape
-Plus-
An advantage of using duct tape is that its easily applicable. When your making your stretcher, duct tape is easily applicable to use on such solid surfaces.
Another advantage of using duct tape is that it can easily be removed. When your using duct tape to make your stretcher, it can be easily removed if you make any mistakes when placing it on any surfaces.
An advantage of using duct tape is that its strong and sterdy. It will be able to hold very well when making a stretcher due to how sterdy duct tape can be.
-Minus-
A disadvantage of using duct tape is that it may not stick well to the other materials used. Depending on what kind of materials your using for a makeshift stretcher, for example: some soft feeling textured material, duct tape wont be able to stick well to that kind of material.
Another disadvantage of using duct tape is that it may not stick on wet surfaces . When water touches the sticky part of duct tape, it looses its grip making it completely useless.
A disadvantage of using duct tape is that it may not be taken with you. We may think that duct tape may be of no use in the bush but if you have a serious injury, you really have not much sterdy items to help you make a stretcher.
