Occurs once or twice a day, often nocturnal

Bilateral, non-pulsatile headache with scalp muscle tenderness

Character

Pulsatile, throbbing: migraine
Frequency
Headaches that recur tend to be benign: migraine, cluster headache, trigeminal neuralgia
Onset
Gradual onset: venous sinus thrombosis, sinusitis, tropical illness, intracranial hypotension
Rapid onset: subarachnoid haemorrhage, meningitis, encephalitis
Duration
Chronic, progressive headaches can indicate raised ICP
