DT Revision
Manufacturing
1) Firstly you would being with measuring your long planks of pine. You measure the different lengths needed for each face of the rule and use a try square for accuracy.
2) After the wood is put in a vice, the pieces of the box should be cut with a tenon saw. Remember to wear goggles. Also, check for right-angles
3) Cardboard can be used as a template. Draw the joints and cut out the template with a knife (e.g a utility knife)
4) The template should be used to mark the joints on the pieces of wood, then cut with a tenon saw
5) Cut out the marked joints (always cut on the waste side) with a tenon saw and use a coping saw where the tenon saw cannot be used. Remember to wear goggles
6) If the joints are not perfect, they can be sanded with a file (via draw filing) and sandpaper
7) Once all the joints are cut, glue can be applied to all the joints for a stronger box. The boxes should be left in vices for at least a few hours to dry. You may wish to sand the box with a belt sander also.
8) You should then get your MDF, measure and mark out the size needed and cut with a tenon saw on the waste side. It may be sanded down later. You can stick the MDF on to the boxes with glue and secure them in vices and leave them to dry. You should do the same to your lid insert.
9) You may want to apply varnish for a shiny look, going along the grain
