Body Systems
Digestive System
-
Important parts of this system include the mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver, and large intestine.
-
-
-
-
-
Associated diseases include crohn disease, celiac disease, and colera. Crohn disease is caused by a poor diet and severe stress. Celiac disease is caused by viral infections, childbirth, and severe emotional stress.
Care for this system by eating a diet that contains high fibers, limiting foods high in fat, and y staying hydrated.
Connections: The digestive system works well with the circulatory system and the respiratory system. While the digestive system works to get the nutrients for the cells the cells from the circulatory system take the nutrients and distribute it to other parts of the body. The respiratory system and the digestive system work together to produce energy your cells need.
Muscular System
The purpose of this system is to stabilize joints, maintain posture, produce movement, move substances within the body, produce heat, and stabilize body position.
Main parts of this system include the bicep, tricep, pectorals, gluteus maximus, and tendons.
-
-
-
-
-
Associated diseases include, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, and compartment syndrome. Muscular dystrophy is when a gene is defective or mutated. Cerebral Palsy is when there is a brain injury of malformation. Compartment syndrome occurs when an injury such as a fracture that causes bleeding in a muscle to occur.
You can take care of this system by warming up and cooling down after every workout, and having a diet that consists of lots of protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates.
Connections: The muscular, nervous, and skeletal system work well together. The muscular system connects the bones together and gives them movement. The nervous system controls the contraction of the muscle.
Skeletal System
The skeletal system allows movement, provides support to the body, protects organs, stores minerals, and forms new blood cells.
Major parts of this system include bones, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and bone marrow.
-
-
-
-
-
Associated diseases include osteoporosis, leukemia, and osteomalacia.
Care for this system by eating lots of vegetables, getting a lot of vitamin D, and performing strength training.
The skeletal system works with the cardiovascular system. One of our most important organs is the heart. The skeletal system (specifically the rib cage) protects the heart.
Respiratory System
-
Main parts of this system include the trachea, bronchi, bronciole, alveoli, and lungs.
-
-
-
-
-
Associated diseases include asthma, lung cancer, and pneumonia. Asthma is when the lungs have certain problems and becomes weak. Lung cancer is caused by the overproducing of cells. Pneumonia is caused by the streptococcus pneumoniae germ.
Take care of this system by avoiding smoking, avoiding exposure to the flu, and by eating a healthy and balanced diet.
Connections: The respiratory system works well with the digestive and the skeletal system. The respiratory system gives cells oxygen they need and the digestive system gives the cells nutrients they need to keep us all alive. The skeletal system protects important organs of the respiratory system such as the ribs and lungs.
Cardiovascular System
This system transports nutrients, oxygen, and hormone cells throughout the body.
Main parts include the red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, blood vessels, and the heart.
-
White Blood Cells:Cells that help fight infections by fighting bacteria, germs, and viruses.
-
-
Heart: Pumps blood throughout the body by supplying oxygen and other nutrients to parts of the body.
Associated Diseases include heart attack, coronary artery, heart muscle disease. Heart attack comes from heart falure. Coronary artery disease occurs when the heart does not pump enough blood. Heart muscle disease occurs from dilated cardiomyopathy.
Care for this system by cutting down on salt and foods that are highly salted, controlling cholesterol intake, and by exercising daily.
Connections: The cardiovascular system works hand in hand with the respiratory system and the nervous system. The cardiovascular system pumps blood into the lungs that fill up with oxygen and get the carbon dioxide out. The brain regulates the heart rate and blood pressure of the cardiovascular system.
Nervous System
The purpose of the nervous system is to collect sensory output, to process/interpret sensory output/to respond appropriately to sensory output.
Important Parts include, the brain, spinal cord, neurons, nerves, and the ganglia.
Brain: It is a part of the CNS and controls or thoughts, memory, and speech.
-
-
Neuron: Receives incoming information and send a signal to other neurons, muscles, or glands.
Ganglia: Motor control, cognition, emotions, and learning.
Associated Diseases include Alzheimer's Disease, Epilepsy, and Parkinson's. Alzheimer's Disease is caused by brain cell death Epilepsy is caused by head trauma as a result of a car accident or other injury. Parkinson's is caused by nerve cells dying in the brain.
One can care for this body system by having a healthy sleeping schedule, staying away from drugs and alcohol, and take care of diabetes and high blood pressure.
The nervous system works with the muscular system because the muscular system needs the nervous system to tell it what to do. When the body wants to move the brain sends a message through nerves. This message gets carried on to the proper muscle and it then moves the hand. Without these two system we would not be able to move.
Endocrine System
-
Main parts include the thymus gland, thyroid gland, pituitary gland, pancreas, and the adrenal gland.
-
-
Pituitary Gland: Controls the body's growth, reproduction, and metabolism.
-
-
Associated diseases include thyroids, osteoporosis, and coitre. Thyroids happen when the thyroid gland fails to produce enough hormones. Osteoporosis happens when there are too many parathyroid problems. Coitre happens when there is lack of iodine in the diet.
Take care of this system by including iodine in the diet, keeping at a healthy weight, and informing doctors of any hormones entering the body.
Connections: The endocrine system works very closely with the nervous system, the circulatory, and the muscular system. The endocrine system creates hormones that provide feedback to the brain (nervous system). Also the endocrine system creates hormones that are chemically transmitted through the circulatory system to muscles throughout the body.
Urinary System
-
Main body parts include the liver, lungs, kidneys, and uterus.
Liver: Filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body.
-
-
Kidneys: Help filter blood before sending it back to the heart and maintaining overall fluid balance.
-
Associated diseases include a UTI, cystitis, and deterioration of kidney function. A UTI is caused by the bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli), usually found in the digestive system Cystitis is caused by bacteria. Detoriation of the idneys is caused by the kidneys being worn down.
Take care of this system by avoiding constipation, avoiding smoking, and eating fiber foods.
