Aim
For this project you have been commissioned by “loop de loop” decorations to develop a “no glue” hangable package for their 60mm Christmas baubles. You will need to research, design and create some 3-Dimensional functioning prototypes to suit.
Part One:
-
-
c) In small groups, brainstorm the elements and requirements of existing packaging. Include photos of existing packaging
d) Identify how your packaging will meet the 3Ps and 1T and what elements you will include on your packaging, through the use of the “Fish Bone”graphic organiser
-
f) In a group and using the provided printed net templates, identify the cut lines and fold lines. Scan all templates and place in the EVD
g) Using the provided printed net templates, cut out, fold and apply your rough initial ideas for the design, looking at placement of:
-Product name
-Brand name
-Slogan
-Graphical elements
-Packaging legislation
-Symbols / Barcode
(This should include rough design elements required for your packaging in black and white, it should also including the background design for the inside of the packaging)
-
-
j) Using a different coloured post-it note for each person, get feedback from 4 people. Feedback should include, but not limited to:
-Name
-Date of feedback
-Any positive aspects
-Any suggested improvements
-
l) Based on the feedback provided, explain what improvements you will make to your packaging
Part Two:
a) Using the hand-drawn design plus the improvements as a template, generate 3 digital variations of your packaging in Illustrator
b) Once all 3 variations are completed, print all 3 on one A3 sheet
c) Get feedback from 4 different people, using different coloured post-it notes for each person.Feedback should include, but not limited to:
-Name of person
-Date of feedback
-Any modifications
-What elements stand out in a good way
-What elements are not working for the design
-What elements should be pulled together to make the final design
d) Modify your final digital design based on the provided feedback, make sure that you have appropriate bleed, fold and trim marks
-
-
Part Three
-
b) Print and construct the packaging safely and accurately, documenting your participation in the process
c) Summarise the process and the WHS for each stage of construction; include Score, Cut, Fold, Construction and Work Area
d) Place the matching product into your box and photograph the front/side,back/side and the slightly unfolded box to show the inside of the final packaging
-
f) Write a rationale explaining:
-The process you took to achieve the final packaging design
-What materials, tools and equipment you used to design and construct your packaging
-How you think the final packaging turned out
-How the elements and principles of design are applied to your design
-The challenges and issues that you experienced when designing and constructing your packaging
-What you would do differently to improve the product and the process.
-Why you think that your packaging turned out differently to your peers packaging.
