Why I believe that there is no
single
method for Scientific Discovery
Personal Introduction
to the scientific method
First time being introduced to the Scientific Method took place in Grade 8 Natural Science class
Introduction allowed me to have retrospective thought on the subject as being presented with new info and problems throughout my studies and life
Alternative scientific methods
Bioassay method, popular in 1930's
Genetic Screen method used in modern times
Double Helix method for Physicists
Discussing the different methods used prior to and currently alternatively to that of the scientific method
There are multiple scientists who did not use the scientific method as it is known today, as it was not yet invented
Reflective feelings, emotions and response
The first introduction I had to scientific in high-school, it was just another 'thing' for us to study and did not impact me and my peers as it should have at the time
Retrospective reflection enabled me to become more enlightened on the situation and understand that the scientific method cannot be used for every case of need for scientific research and discovery
Reasoning for popularity of Scientific Method
Essentially axiomatisation, the generalized process that the scientific method was
The simple steps that provide a sound, time-tested and peer reviewed method for scientific discovery, even though not applicable in every situation, most
The recent, modern requirement of science requiring tests to accept word as truth
The ability for the scientific method to include steps (or an experiment) that is reproducible in another scientific environment by peers to confirm results, even though this is not at all limited to the scientific method
The basis of concept and process that makes the scientific method a construct of how humans are able to accept truths in modern society
The way humans accept truth today are through a very similar process to that of the scientific method
Coming up with questions and observations, while being a step in the scientific method is a natural process that we go through as humans
Steps involved in
the scientific method
Make observations, Formulate a hypothesis, Design and perform experiments, Accept or modify the hypothesis, Development into a law and/or theory
There are various teaching and acceptance of different numbers of steps but most accumulate to the same structure regardless of the difference in steps, as some are combined or more refined into multiple steps
Before the scientific method
The invention of the scientific method is an attribute that has been applied to a many scientists and scholars through the ages, Aristotle, Archimedes, Galileo, Roger Bacon, Francis Bacon, Descartes and Newton
But before this, there was not necessarily a need for proof through experimentation, so many of the truths once believed have been abolished through the modern use of the scientific method
There has come much good from the scientific method, but again it has its place in science along side other methods for certain scenarios
Scenarios that cannot be
catered for by the
Scientific Method
(limitations)
Intelligent design
Social Sciences
Global Warming
Anything that is not currently and clearly falsifiable
These sciences and research
have merit when applied in the real world
