Family Mycoplasmataceae
- smallest free living microorganisms
- lack a cell wall => difficult for antibiotics to target => can't be seen on gram stain (too small anyway)
- 6 species implicated in human diseases

Genital Mycoplasmas
Many are commensals of the genital tract
Population size = proportionate to sexual activity
Difficult to attribute definite links between these bacteria and disease, because their role as pathogens is UNCERTAIN => they are known commensals of genital tract

Anaerobic bacteria
Ubiquitous members of commensal;
=> Bowel flora
=> Oropharynx flora
=> Vaginal flora
=> Skin flora
Will not gro on surface of blood agar UNLESS in anaerobic conditions
