why did you select this poem
I chose this poem because I have heard that this author is quite talented in what she does. She has a lot of well known poems and that intrigued me.
what is your first impression of the poem
It had a lot of metaphors which needed a lot of thinking to understand what it actually meant.
what is the poem about
It is an autobiography of the authors life because she felt trapped most of her life. The caged birds that are singing is a metaphor for trapped people longing for freedom. She compared the lives of free people and trapped people.

I predict that the poem might be about a trapped person because its says a caged bird.
