prevents damge of brain bc it acts like a cushion
cleans up waste products
aids in maintaining brain temperature
Astrocytes
aka astroglia
hold neurons in place
help to keep neurons healthy
support the blood-brain barrier
contribute to the dilation of blood vessels
support the recovery of brain tissue by forming a scar
microglia
originate in the blood
control health of brain
act as immune system
support recovery
consume dead and foreign brain cells
aka phagocytosis
once full, they function no longer
