Metabolism
Endergonic - When energy is needed ( abosrb energy)
Exergonic - When energy is released
Reactant - The substances the take part in the chemical reaction
Product - The result of the chemical reaction
- All chemical reactions that our body needs to survive
Anabolic - Build up
Catabolic - Break down
Energy needed to start reaction (in both catabolic and anabolic)
a type of protein that speed up the chemical reaction
How it works
- The substrates bind with enzyme at active site and form "enzyme substrate complex"
- The enzyme substrate complex will break or join to convert substrates into product.
- Product released from enzyme and enzyme get back to original shape
More than 1 enzymes working in a pathway
Substrate concentration - The more substrate = the more faster reaction until the saturation point
Temperature
warm - fastest
cold - slower
heat - no reaction
pH - depend on enzyme (no standard)
non - protein molecule that work to help enzyme by binding to the active site to make substrate fit the active site.
Inhibitors
Molecule that stop enzyme from making product
Competitive - It will compete with the substrate for binding in active site.
Non competitive - it will bind to "allosteric site" which change the shape of the active site
Feedback inhibition - when the product of the pathway binds act as the non competitive inhibitor to stop the pathway to produce to much products
